The UK and Spain have strong commercial and financial links, with the UK being Spain's fourth-largest supplier of goods. The investment department is now handling a large number of inquiries relating to investment in Spain.

A land of opportunity

Spain is being increasingly seen as an ideal location by foreign companies. Total foreign direct investment reached $8.8 billion in the first 11 months of 1994, up by 26% from the year-earlier period, and there were 153 purchase and joint venture deals. Spain is now the fourth-largest European recipient of foreign direct investment, and the sixth-largest in the world.

The UK's special investment relationship with Spain
Article Abstract:
The UK was the third-largest direct foreign investor in Spain in the period 1988-1994, behind the Netherlands and France and accounting for 13% of investment projects. The Spanish commercial office in London has an Investment Department which works to attract selected UK investors to Spain. Similar work is being undertaken in other countries across the world.
