A poor grade for the IMF
Article Abstract:
Some observers have expressed reservations about the work of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Asia. This organization is putting strong pressure on the countries affected by Asia's economic crisis to allow a higher level of foreign ownership, especially in the financial sector. Its rescue programmes have been strongly influenced by the US, and include conditions that go beyond ordinary macroeconomic targets, thus ensuring that US companies gain market access. Further, the IMF's policies seem to be devised by employees who do not really understand the countries concerned.

Rebuilding Asia
Article Abstract:
It is possible that prosperity will return to Asia, but this will only happen if countries in the region acknowledge and learn from the mistakes they made during the time when they were experiencing very rapid economic growth. Furthermore, economic recovery in Asia will require help from outside the region, even though anti-foreigner sentiment is currently strong in some parts of Asia. Above all, future economic strength in Asia will not be achieved without sound governance.
