A roadmap for planet-hunting
Article Abstract:
Larger planets are easier to detect, but techniques are being developed to detect smaller planets. University of California, Berkeley, is home to Geoffrey Marcy's team which uses radial-velocity techniques. Interferometry uses light from separate telescopes to detect smaller planets. The Keck interferometer is being built in Hawaii. Transit photometry is another method, and plants are found indirectly by all these methids. When solar systems have been analysed there is hope that the planets themselves can be photographed.
