A safe bet: gambling giant Genting retains its leadership
Article Abstract:
Genting again heads the roster of Malaysian companies recognized as overall leaders in Far Eastern Economic Review's third annual REVIEW 200 survey, followed by Sime Darby, Maybank, and Arab-Malaysian Merchant Bank in that order. Genting remains strong in all ways, taking the top mark as well for financial soundness, but the company is beginning to diversify away from the gambling casino that still provides 80% of its revenue. Public Bank was another standout, leaping into the top 10 at No 8 thanks to solid profits on mid-range revenue.
