SARS (severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) has forced the Chinese government to rethink how it allocated funds. According to a graph in the article, the government reduced funding for health care during the later part of the 1990s at the same time that health costs increased. Drug companies are expected to see increased profits as the country addresses more than just SARS.
