A tangled web
Article Abstract:
The presentation of the United Kingdom budget has been criticised as misleading by the Treasury spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, Malcolm Bruce. He mentions a number of issues, including a downward revision of the growth forecast, and a cut in government spending, both of which were not signalled. Critics also argue that the government is seeking to politicise press releases from government departments. The previous Conservative governments also presented information in ways that flattered them, but this has become more pervasive with the Labor government.
