A victory for rationality: homosexuals
Article Abstract:
The 1992 Colorado referendum was a constitutional amendment both overturned local anti-gay discrimination ordinances, and banned future such laws. A strong 6-3 Court majority rejected Colorado's claim that the laws gave special rights, and found no rational basis for the ban. Gays rejoiced.

Inadmissable evidence: the Rodney King case
Article Abstract:
The four officers accused of violating King's civil rights will be tried in a federal court. However, the new charges will be difficult to prove because the officers must have intended to violate King's rights. The trial is very close to violating laws against double jeopardy.

The second Rodney King trial, technically for a different offense, was to correct the first verdict because the jury did not meet public expectations. Such action treats juries with contempt and undermines the conduct of justice.
