A woman's work: America's oldest women's group, the YWCA, taps an Indian-born leader
Article Abstract:
Prema Mathai-Davis was selected in 1994 to be the first foreign-born and Asian woman to head the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in its 135-year history. Her family has long led the YWCA in India and Pakistan, and she is an educator and social worker with experience heading New York City's Dept for Ageing and its transit system. She hopes to continue the YWCA's fights against discrimination and to support all women and fight all inequalities. The group has 2.1 million members worldwide.

Foster's tackles tough Indian market
Article Abstract:
Carlton and United Breweries launched its signature brand, Foster's, in India in Jun 1998. The company has been bolder than other international beer manufacturers who have avoided the competitive Indian market. Many fear entering licensing arrangements with Indian manufacturers without equity investment. Foreign brands, like America's Strohs and Germany's Beck's, have not been successful in India.
