Article Abstract:
Trade between US and China is actually bringing the two countries closer even though their politicians are becoming more alienated from each other. Chinese people working for international business enterprises are developing values and behaviors which are based on human rights and democracy. This new group of technical middle class workers are earning their wealth and power through their individual merit and hard work instead of through their connections with the state and the Communist Party.

Americans in the "Opernhaus."
Article Abstract:
Neil Shicoff and his wife Dawn Kotoski are two of the top performers in the Zurich Opera House. The generous offer of the director of the Zurich Opera House to let husband and wife perform together contributed to their decision to move to Switzerland. Shicoff has found the atmosphere in Zurich very conducive to daring interpretations of opera masterpieces. In addition, Zurich's opera audiences are appreciative and well-educated, knowing what to expect from the performances they attend.
