Not what it used to be: Asian equities have lost their allure - for the moment
Article Abstract:
Political worries about many Asian countries combined with fears US stocks and bonds could fall have combined to weigh down interest in Asia's markets. Some analysts say the US stockmarket could fall up to 25%, and bond rates could rise from 7.25% to 8%. More significant, though, are concerns that the generation of leaders who brought Asia from the 1960s to the present are passing, with implications for the economies linked to their personal political empires. Hong Kong's prospects are especially cloudy.

Another kind of animal: the Ox may look like a bull, but is he?
Article Abstract:
Retail investors are surging into Asian stocks, whilst many experienced market participants are liquidating personal equity holdings. There are concerns that some of the more spectacular gains, such as in Hong Kong, will collapse. Fund managers are also racing to set up bond funds in Vietnam, but it is unclear whether Japan will contribute. Fund managers will have the alter their investment habits with the fall of tariffs in the Asean region to take advantage of Asean free trade.
