ABN Amro braces for protracted fight

ABN AMRO Bank N.V. is digging in its heels in a legal and regulatory battle to acquire the Italian lender Banca Antonveneta, hoping to force one of the first cross-border deals in the Italian banking industry. The original takeover bid was frustrated by Banca Popolare di Lodi S.C.A.R.L. which has a stake of 29 percent in Banca Antonveneta and is also making acquisition overtures.
