Arcelor to fortify steelmaking might with Turkish deal

Luxembourg steelmaker Arcelor SA has increased its stake in Eregli Iron and Steel Works Co., Turkey's largest steel plant. Arcelor's investment comes after it lost to a Turkish armed forces pension fund in a bid to purchase the Turkish company. Arcelor sees its investment as part of a larger plan to increase its presence in Turkey and other regional steel markets.

Arcelor offers $3.8 billion in hostile bid for Dofasco

Arcelor S.A. of Luxembourg is making overtures to acquire Dofasco Inc. of Canada for $3.8 billion, seeking to grow in the North American market. The acquisition by the European steelmaker would create a company worth 33.9 billion Euros ($40 billion). Arcelor S.A. is the second largest steelmaker in the world by production.

Arcelor tops bid by ThyssenKrupp to buy Dofasco

Arcelor S.A. of France has offered a sweetend bid for Dofasco Inc. of Canada. The offer is 4.02 billion Euros ($4.88 billion) or $71 Canadian Dollars ($61.20 United States Dollars) per share. Arcelor is in a bidding war with ThyssenKrupp AG of Germany for the Canadian steelmaker.
