ABN Amro views Italy for growth

ABN Amro Holding NV is expected to acquire a 8.7% share of Banca di Roma. The acquisition price will be approximately $1 billion. Banca di Roma is one of the largest banks in Italy. The announcement of the acquisiton would follow KBC Bancassurance Holding Company's purchase of 7.7% of Credit Commercial de France. The moves reflect the leadership of the Benelux banks in cross-border expansion.
