ABN bidding goes down to wire: RBS revises conditions on late $99 billion offer in effort to trump Barclays

ABN AMRO Holding N.V. is considering two takeover bids, one by Barclays PLC worth $88.72 bil in stock, and one by a consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland PLC for $99 bil. In a side deal, ABN had initially agreed with Barclays to sell its American unit, LaSalle, to Bank of America Corp. for $21 bil; however, the consortium has offered $24.5 bil for LaSalle.

Home Depot to buy Hughes Supply for $3.19 billion

In an effort to boost its commercial supply business, The Home Depot Inc. has purchased Hughes Supply Inc., one of the biggest distributors of building materials in the United States.
