AD INDUSTRY GROWTH SLUMPS TO 5%
Article Abstract:
60 Indian advertising industry is facing recession with its growth likely to drop to five percent in 1998-99 (17.9 percent growth in 1997-98). Of the 130 advertising agencies listed under Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI), 30 have indicated negative growth and 15 have shown less than five percent growth in 1997-98. In Calcutta and Madras the decline in industry's growth is attributed to recession in production sectors. Some of the advertising agencies in these cities have even closed down their operations. The advertising agencies are now exploring new methods of advertising instead of printing and electronic publishing. (gs)(psr)
