AES agrees to buy Drax for 2.87 billion euros

AES Corp. has reached an agreement to purchase National Power PLC's UK Drax power station for 1.88 billion pound sterling (2.87 billion euros). The Drax power station has a 3,960-megawatt capability. The station will make AES one of the five leading electrical-generating companies in Great Britain. The Drax plant is Western Europe's largest coal-fired power plant. The plant provides electricity for England and Wales.

E.ON and Powergen form a superpower
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the take-over of Powergen PLC by E.ON AG. The acquisition for 8.3 billion euros in cash and the assumption of 7.1 billion euros in debt will create the worlds second larges utility after Electricite de France. Because Powergen has already acquired LG&E Energy of Kentucky, this acquisition will mark the first entry of a continental European utility into the U.S. market
