Britannia Industries (BI) has increased its sales by 12 percent and net profit by 62 percent in 1997-98. Its gross margins increased to 6.31 percent in 1997-98 from 4.81 percent in 199697. The company has entered into a technical collaboration with Group Danone of France to launch cheese products and dairy whitener. It also plans to introduce mineral water and milk based beverages with the help of the French company. It has introduced 14 new products including the tiger brand of biscuits in 1997-98. It plans to concentrate more on exporting biscuits to Russia, Sri Lanka and Africa. The Foreign Investment Promotion Board has given permission to Group Danone to increase its holding in BI to 50.20 percent.
