ASSOCHAM PEGS INDUSTRIAL GROWTH FOR FY AT 6.5 PC
Article Abstract:
The industrial growth in India for 1998-99 has been placed at 6.5 percent by the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham). It has forecast a gross domestic product (GDP) of 6 percent and a fiscal deficit of 6.53 percent for 1998-99. It expects the real GDP to increase up to 6.5 percent if the government takes up disinvestment in public sector units. The disinvestment is expected to lead to an additional inflow of Rs14,870 crore. Assocham has stated that a better credit management by the banking system could enable the curtailment of inflation rate to 7 percent. (ag)

ESSAR PEGS LNG POWER COST AT Rs2.9 CR/MW
Article Abstract:
Essar Power Limited (EPL) has proposed to set up a liquefied natural gas (LNG) based 500 mw power project at Hazira. EPL has submitted its proposal to Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) quoting a price of Rs2.9 crore per mw for the power generation. The cost of the project is estimated at around Rs1,600 crore. EPL has already signed pact with Petronet LNG for the supply of LNG. Petronet LNG is a joint venture of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Gas Authority of India Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (gs)

PANEL PEGS VSNL OFFER AT 1.69 M SHARES
Article Abstract:
The core group set up for the disinvestment process has decided to offer 1.69 million shares of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd in the domestic issue scheduled for February 1999. The company has also planned a GDR issue where 10 million shares are to be offered to foreign investors. The core panel has decided that the company will approach the Securities and Exchange Board for amendments to the quantum and the date of the domestic issue. (khr)
