AMP ends talks to purchase assets from Equitable

AMP Ltd. has terminated negotiations for acquiring some of Equitable Life's assets. Equitable reportedly would not agree to AMP's request for a period of exclusivity in which to finish talks. Equitable also did not agree on a sale price with AMP.

GE Capital and Halifax PLC have expressed interest in acquiring Equitable Life Assurance Society. GE Capital has offered to acquire Equitable Life for approximately 400 million pounds (627.5 million euros).

Eureko has evidently withdrawn from the competition to acquire Equitable Life for undisclosed reasons. Eureko's move makes Prudential PLC the only interested party remaining to acquire Equitable Life.
