St. James's Place Capital PLC reported an increase in its 1998 pretax profits of 67%. The company posted 86.3 million pound sterling ($140.7 million) in profits. However St James's Place's share valued dropped 4.3% in London trading. The company's profits were helped by higher sales and acquisitions. Life assurance is one of the most rapidly growing businesses in St. James' Place's sector.
