Asian Hotels Ltd (AHL) operates with 530 rooms in Delhi. The hotel is promoted by the Jatias together with the Guptas and the Sarafs. Its hotels are situated on the leased land of the Delhi Development Authority. AHL has a technical collaboration with Hyatt International Asia-Pacific (HIAP) for sales, marketing and services. Under the agreement, AHL will have to pay 3 percent of the gross income and 7 percent of the gross operating profit to HIAP for the services. AHL spent Rs500 million on a revamping programme in 1994. It plans to open 4 new hotels in Calcutta, Mumbai, Agra and Jaipur in the next few years. The cost of the expansion programme is estimated at around Rs3.5 billion. (gs)

Ragsan Petrochem Ltd has one bottling unit at present and plans to set up two more units. It declared a net loss of Rs2 million against projections of a net profit of Rs12.2 million in 1996-97. The company has been adversely affected by insufficient supply of liquefied petroleum gas due to fluctuations in the international markets and poor port facilities. Its plans to set up two more units has been delayed as shareholders are reluctant to pay allotment money. (khr)
