ASML posts 20% fall in earnings

ASML Holding N.V. of the Netherlands posted a 20 percent decrease in first quarter net profit to 80 million Euros from 100 million Euros. The semiconductor equipment maker experienced reduced sales. Revenue from sales fell eight percent to 629.4 million Euros from 400 million Euros ($493 million).

Philips net drops by 33% on charge; sales climb 6.4 %

Philips Gloeilampenfabrieken N.V. of the Netherlands net profit dropped 33 percent to 332 million Euros ($403 million). The consumer electronics company had an impairment charge despite an overall increase in earnings. Sales are up 6.4 percent to 9.52 billion Euros.

Third-quarter net profit for Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML Holding N.V. showed a 2.4% decrease to $238 mil, due in part by higher research and development costs and lower sales. Sales fell by 1.9%, but machine orders rose during the quarter.
