AT&T accelerates plans for local service in U.S

AT&T Corp. plans to provide local telephone service to millions of consumers in the U.S. through cable lines it acquiring as part of its purchase of TeleCommunications Inc. AT&T plans to spend $2 billion more than it anticipated to upgrade TCI's cable lines so that can provide local, internet and advanced video services by the end of the year in 10 markets. AT&T says it has signed seperate agreements with five cable companies that will add five million potential customers. AT&T currently provides long-distance phone service to roughly 65 million customers.

AT&T and BT to appoint managers of joint venture

The $10 billion global joint venture formed by British Telecommunications PLC and AT&T Corp. has decided on a new management team. Winstar seeks bankruptcy aid, sues Lucent
