AUSTRIA: CHANGE AT ENBW
Article Abstract:
Energie Baden-Wurttemberg (EnBW), the German power company that entered the Austrian market two years ago, claims to have gained contracts for a total of 600 GWh per year in Austria. This corresponds to the power consumption of 120,000 households, but clients include also companies such as Adeg, Henkel, OBB and Treibacher. EnBW is seen as the biggest foreign power supplier in Austria. The company has so far presented itself as the cheapest one. There are rumours in the market about EnBW having lost a three-digit million amount through this strategy. Now the German company has replaced the managing director Christian Schmidt, appointing Erik Regter. According to EnBW, Schmidt is moving to "special projects" within the German power group.

Foreign suppliers have signed delivery contracts for just under 500 GWh. Energie Baden-Wurttemberg and Bayernwerk are the only two foreign suppliers that have gained market shares of any significance.
