Austria: Austria is in recession
Article Abstract:
According to the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (Wifo), Austria is in a recession. This can be seen in that in the fourth quarter of 2001 and the first quarter of 2002 economic activity will reduce in comparison to the previous quarter. Wifo is to revise its latest predictions downwards to take this into account. The prediction of 1.3% growth for 2001 will be reduced slightly, and the predicted growth of 1.9% for 2002 will also not be achieved, although Wifo still expects the economy to recover significantly in the second half of 2002.
