AUSTRIA: CITY-FORUM DEPARTMENT STORES TO CLOSE
Article Abstract:
The bankrupt Austrian department store chain City-Forum is to be closed by court order. No buyer was found for the chain of 12 department stores, which was bought by three partners in a management buy-out from Gerngross Kaufhaus AG in 1996. The credit information agency AKV estimates that 200 of the 248 employees will lose their jobs. Now one of the partners, managing director Gunter Jacobs, is planning to set up a new company that would take over one or two stores in Steyr and Leoben.
