AUSTRIA: FEUD OVER BBAG CONTROL
Article Abstract:
Chief executive Karl Buche, Christian Beurle and Fritz Kretz are among the founders of a new company called Hopfen & Malz Holding AG that was set up to take control of Linz-based Osterreichische Braubeteiligungs-AG (BBAG). Hopfen & Malz should replace Getranke Holding AG as the top company of Austria's biggest drinks group. The remaining shareholders of Getranke Holding AG, which number a few hundred, have been invited to join the new holding company by the end of November 2000. Observers believe that the aim of the operation is to force out the Marsoner family, who own 7-10% of Getranke Holding and who advocate the sale of a stake in BBAG to a foreign partner. The Marsoner family were involved in a bid by South African Breweries for a BBAG stake in 1997.

AUSTRIA: BATTLE ON BBAG CONTROL ENDED
Article Abstract:
A group of shareholders around Helmut Marsoner have sold their 9.5% shareholding in Austria's biggest beverage group, Linz-based Osterreichische Braubeteiligungs-AG (BBAG), to the Hopfen & Malz Holding AG, a company of the Beurle, Buche and Kretz families. Hopfen & Malz thus raises to 90% its stake in Getranke Holding, the holding company of BBAG. The deal ends the rivalry between the families owning BBAG, which lasted for years. Fritz Kretz will become sole director of Hopfen & Malz, succeeding Ludwig Beurle who moves to the supervisory board.
