The supervisory board of Austrian Airlines has nominated Vagn Sorensen chairman of the management board of the Austrian carrier. Together with other three directors, to be appointed by the end of September 2001, the former SAS director has the duty to bring AUA back to black figures and tie it more closely with the Star Alliance.

The majority of employees of Lauda Air and Tyrolean Airways voted for strike action at the beginning of July 2001 unless the parent Austrian Airlines (AUA) agrees to harmonise the working conditions of the pilots and flight attendants of the two airlines with those of AUA staff.
