AUSTRIA: BIDDERS FOR GRAZ UTILITIES
Article Abstract:
The municipality of Graz is inviting tenders for the privatisation of its electricity, gas and district heating utilities. Potential buyers for the Stadtwerke should express their interest by 7 September 2001. Beside Energie Steiermark (Estag) and TXU of the US, which have already announced bids, E.On and RWE of Germany and Electricite de France are expected to be interested. If the entire stock of the utilities was sold, the local authority would gain at least Sch 6.5bn. The money is to be spent on compensating the loss of the local transport company and on infrastructure investments.
