AUSTRIA/GERMANY: AIRLINES TO COOPERATE
Article Abstract:
Austrian Airlines (AUA) and Lufthansa are to cooperate in the routes between Austria and Germany. AUA is to take on 60% of the flights, but the airlines are to share the costs and profits equally. Tickets will be marketed together, but prices are not to increase. AUA expects the competition authorities of the European Union to approve the cooperation because Lufthansa has a similar agreement also with its Star Alliance partner SAS. AUA is cooperating with Swissair between Vienna and Zurich, and is aiming at an agreement with SAS as well. A code-sharing agreement between AUA and US-based United Airlines is planned to come into force in April 2000. AUA is to fly from Vienna to Chicago and Washington in cooperation with United.
