AUSTRIA: DATAKOM TO FOCUS ON E-COMMERCE

Datakom Austria, subsidiary of Telekom Austria, is to expand business in the sector of electronic commerce. The company will offer electronic signatures under the "a-sign" label. The first two orders have already been placed: the Chamber of Economics ordered 10,000 and the Economic University of Vienna 25,000 signatures. The a-sign card is also available at electronics stores for Sch 100 for one year. The two security levels medium and light are already available, and the strong version is being prepared. In 1999, Datakom is to increase turnover by 9% to the all-time high of Sch 3.5bn.

AUSTRIA: CERTIFICATION OF ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES

Austria's Telecom Control Commission has appointed the first four bodies that are entitled to provide certifications of electronic signatures. The licences were granted to Datakom Austria GmbH, Generali Office-Service und Consulting AG, Innovation Systems Informationstechnologie GmbH and Verein Arge Daten - Osterreichische Gesellschaft fur Datenschutz.
