AUSTRIA: INFINEON TECHNOLOGIES LACKS CAPACITY
Article Abstract:
Infineon Technologies Villach AG, the Austrian semiconductor subsidiary of the Siemens group, does not have the capacity to meet demand. The company is looking for 40 new skilled employees in addition to the 2,100 or so existing staff. Infineon claims world market leadership in automotive control chips. With a development of its own, the company has a world market share of 30% in side airbag systems. The Villach company is the only producer of the chips for the side airbags. The clients of Infineon Technologies Villach AG include Audi, Bosch, DaimlerChrysler and Ford. Beside automotive chips, Infineon makes chips for the telecoms industry. One of the new products is a modem that is said to be the smallest and fastest worldwide. It is said to be up to 500 times faster than conventional 56-KB modems. In the fiscal year to 30 September 1999 Infineon Technologies Villach generated a turnover of Sch 3.6bn, up 18% from 1997/98. Profitability is described as good.
