AUSTRIA: KAPSCH TO CONCENTRATE PRODUCTION

In Austria, Kapsch is to concentrate electronics production at its plant in Meidling, Vienna and close the one in Furstenfeld at the end of the second or third quarter 2001. The Styrian plant, which produces radio systems for clients such as the Bundesheer and railway companies, is said to have a low utilisation rate. Some of the 63 staff are to be offered jobs in Vienna.

AUSTRIA: JOB CUTS AT KAPSCH
Article Abstract:
Due to a slump in orders from the telecommunications sector, Austrian Kapsch AG has announced up to 259 redundancies. The company says, however, that the actual job cuts are likely to remain below 100. Most redundancies will be in the manufacturing sector. Kapsch employs 1,800 staff at its only production site in Meidling, Vienna.

In Austria, the Kapsch factory in Furstenfeld that was to be closed, is to be taken over by Korneuburg-based technology group Tecwings. The latter is to invest EUR 1mn in cable production there and increase the number of staff by 15-20 from 60 at present.
