AUSTRIA: KELLY BETTING ON NEW PACKAGING
Article Abstract:
Austria's leading snack producer Kelly saw a 2.3% fall in turnover to Sch 1.058bn in 1999. The company that holds 70.1% of the Austrian market is to concentrate on the production of savoury snacks. Therefore it sold the muesli bar factory to Snack & Back, which meant the loss of turnover of Sch 30mn. A part of the decline of turnover is explained with the reduction of deliveries of peanut products to Bahlsen in Germany. However, profit was up on the 1998 figure. Kelly has invested Sch 65mn in new flavours and in the new Airpack packaging for crisps. The company expects the new packaging type to result in a 20% increase in sales in year 2000.
