AUSTRIA: MAGNA STEYR TO EXPAND CAPACITY
Article Abstract:
Austro-Canadian auto supplier group Magna Steyr boasts an excellent order situation particularly for its production of Jeep Grand Cherokee and several Mercedes models. Magna wants to employ 1,300 staff in order to raise its capacity in the Steyr-Daimler-Puch Fahrzeugtechnik (SFT) site in Graz, Austria. In addition to the increase in existing production (the output of the Mercedes G-class is to be raised by 35% in 2002), Magna bets on new orders. The contract for the production of the Saab convertible has been confirmed. Now the Graz site is waiting for the contract to produce the BMW X3, which BMW chief Milberg promised some months ago.
