Austria: Cooperation between gas companies?
Article Abstract:
The Austrian gas company OMV has revealed its support for cooperation between gas companies within the country. It is already confirmed that EVN, Wiengas and Linz would also be interested in cooperation within Austria, although Steirische Ferngas and Oberosterreichische Ferngas have not confirmed their interest although it is likely that Oberosterreichische Ferngas, as a subsidiary of OMV, would join the group. The group would bring together the purchasing and delivery aspects of all of its members, although it would not encompass pipelines and storage. An attraction for OMV would be that it would have a chance to have direct access to end users. OMV is to proceed cautiously in its foreign operations, although it is interested in being involved in the building of Eastern European pipelines.

AUSTRIA: OMV TO OFFER TELECOMS INFRASTRUCTURE
Article Abstract:
Austria's Telekom Control has granted OMV, the national energy and chemicals group, a concession to offer lease lines. Fibreoptic cables are to be laid along the pipelines of OMV. The company is to take the decision by the end of 1999 on whether to lay the fibreoptic itself. However, the company will not become a telecoms operator. Instead, it will lease lines to international carriers. OMV is planning fibreoptic lines along the pipelines from Munich via Vienna and Bratislava to Budapest; from Vienna to Arnoldstein; to Milan; and via Switzerland to Germany.
