Article Abstract:
It is estimated that the sales of sports equipment in Austria will grow by no less than 10% in year 2000, following an 8% increase to Sch 14bn in 1999. There is a trend towards higher quality and thus more expensive products. Among the different sports, jogging and cycling are becoming more popular again. The big sports retail chains Sport 2000 and Hervis do not expect internet sales to gain no more than 5% of the turnover of the sports equipment trade in the next five years. However, Austrian sports equipment retailers are working on an internet portal, which will serve mainly as a source of information.
