Article Abstract:
The Wirtschaftskammer predicts Austria's chipboard production to grow from 1.8mn cu.m in 1999 to 2.3mn cu.m in year 2000. Production value is likely to rise from Sch 6.6bn to Sch 7.5bn. In 1999 turnover increased 3.1%, while production volume remained unchanged. Also the production of fibreboard stagnated at 165,000 cu.m. Austria had an export surplus of Sch 4bn in wood board trade in 1999. Austria's chipboard producers Binder, Egger, Funder, Homogenholz, Kaindl and Novopan (owned by Egger and Mayr-Melnhof) have 40 production plants between them in Austria, Germany and Italy. The industry is making investments of Sch 4bn in Austria, including new production facilities for Binder and Kaindl as well as modernisation projects. Environmental projects account for 15% of total investments.
