AUSTRIA: READERSHIP OF FREE-DISTRIBUTION PAPERS
Article Abstract:
The Regioprint 2000 survey conducted on behalf of the association of regional media in Austria, VRM, suggests that 80% of free-distribution papers are read. The study based on the interviews of 5,650 Austrians over 14 years of age by IFES and Fessel/GfK concludes that the combined readership of the papers is 3.6mn. This means a penetration rate of 54.6%. The highest rate, at 81%, is achieved by Tiroler Bezirksblatter in Tyrol.

AUSTRIA: FREE PAPER LOSES EDITOR
Article Abstract:
Rudolf Mathias has resigned as editor-in-chief of U-Express, the free paper distributed in Vienna's underground. The paper was launched by Kronen Zeitung/Mediaprint only on 16 March 2001. U-Express may face competition from the Scandinavian publishing company Metro, which has plans for a similar title.
