Austria: UMTS to start on time
Article Abstract:
Sebastiano Tevarotto, manager of network and telecommunications at Hewlett-Packard, assures the launch of UMTS, Universal Mobile Telecommunications Systems, will be according to schedule in 2003. Area-wide coverage similar to the conventional GMS-network will not be achieved at first, as availability of the service will be limited to densely populated areas. Tevarotto considers a growth in sales between 10 to 20% possible for cellular phone operators and suggests investment in UMTS infrastructure by telecom companies is still necessary.
