Africa's moment under the UN's gaze
Article Abstract:
The United Nations (UN) is focusing on Africa during the presidency of the US of the UN Security Council. Little will materialize unless Congress supports UN policies, due to the weight of the US contribution. Refugees, AIDS and civil wars are among Africa's problems. There has been a new focus on the problems caused by AIDS, and African wars have also been discussed in the Security Council. A visit by Jesse Helms to the Security Council could also mark an improvement in relations between the UN and Congress.
