The US-led coalition has made great progress against the Taliban in the north of Afghanistan, but many problems still remain. The Taliban may be harder to oust in the south, and the US must still tackle the huge tasks of forming a new government and increasing humanitarian aid.

A puzzling kind of war

The US and its allies seem confused over the nature of the war against Afghanistan and how long it will last. There is little information as to how the war is really progressing and what shape a post-Taliban Afghanistan will take.
