Takeover premiums in the UK rose in 3rd qtr 1994 and fell in 4th qtr 1994. The average premium in full-year 1994 was higher than that of 1993, but the fall in 4th qtr 1994 could be continued in 1995. Browning-Ferris Industries is a company based in the US which paid just above par value in its deal involving Attwoods. Three firms accepted discounts during 1994, and these firms include The Reject Shop which accepted a one-day discount of 62% from Upton and Southern.

Record level of M and A activity in the UK IT sector last year
Article Abstract:
A total of 307 acquisitions were carried out in the UK in the information technology industry in 1994, a 12% rise on 1993 and a record number. The total in value terms at 2.5 billion pounds sterling for 1994 was down from the 3.3 billion pounds for 1993, due to small companies being involved. Information services and software were the focus of strong activity and the multimedia industry saw a number of strategic investments by foreign companies.
