Aid on a shoestring:What does the DTI do with its slender resources?
Article Abstract:
Nitech of the UK is an exper in torches and portable lighting systems and is a keen exporter. It uses the DTI's export intelligence service to help gain overseas customers, without the time and money involved in overseas trade missions. However Cornelius, a company acting for large foreign chemicals companies bringing in raw materials that are processed and re-exported, has considered exporting platstics which required information on overseas agents. The cost involved using the DTI were too high. The DTI has raised its profile during the past three years with new initiatives such as export promoters, Business Links and personal business advisers.

Found: Europe's business hotspots
Article Abstract:
Recent research has looked at areas of eastern and western Europe where there are very large numbers of successful small businesses, considering whether these areas can serve as examples to others where businesses are not thriving. It found that the key distinguishing factors of these entrepreneurial areas are geography, local history and people's attitudes. Areas which are at the crossroads of major routes are more likely to thrive, as are those which provide the right environment for businesses.
