Air China's bid shows splits in government

A hostile bid by China National Aviation Holding Co. has prompted shareholders of China Eastern Airlines Corp. to reject a joint proposal by two other firms for a stake in the airline. The proposal, from Singapore Airlines and investment firm Temasek Holdings Private Ltd., was valued at $923 mil, at HK$3.80 per share for a 24% stake. China National's hostile bid involves HK$5 per share for a 24% to 30% stake.

Singapore buyers ratify stake deal for China Eastern

The board of Singapore Airlines Ltd. has approved the purchase of a stake in China Eastern Airlines Corporation Ltd. Singapore Airlines will buy a 15.7% stake for HK$4.7 bil, while its parent, Temasek Holdings Private Ltd., will take an 8.3% stake for HK$2.5 bil. The total stake between Singapore and Temasek, 24%, is just below the 25% maximum permitted to foreign owners by China's regulations.
