Air France-Delta Alliance gets off the ground; antitrust issues could cause turbulence for partnership
Article Abstract:
Air France and Delta Air Lines officially announced their partnership on Jun 22, 1999, but continue to face antitrust issues. Air France CEO Jean-Cyril Spineetta says Delta and Air France hope to establish a brand name by the end of 1999, and are seeking to line up additional partners in Asia, especially. Air France and Delta expect the partnership to generate an additional operating profit of $100 million/year for each airline. The two companies together would control 20% of air traffic in the North Atlantic, and have yet to receive antitrust immunity permits from their governments allowing them to work as a single entity.
