Airbus nears an accord with Singapore Airlines
Article Abstract:
Airbus Industrie is close to signing a contract with Singapore Airlines for at least 10 long-range A340-500 jetliners. The Asian carrier's management has recommended the awarding of the contract worth about $1.5 billion to the European consortium. The recommendation is a big blow to Seattle, WA-based Boeing Co., which has been looking at the Singapore buy as a platform to launch its rival long-range jetliner model. Sources close to the negotiations said management chose Airbus over Boeing because of price and engine considerations. The Boeing 777-200X only has two engines, which restrict them from flying over the Pacific Ocean.
