'Vic' and Dundee tapped to help attract post-Olympics visitors
Article Abstract:
In a post-Olympics strategy, the Australian Tourist Commission is teaming up with about 200 travel industry companies including Qantas Airways Ltd., UAL Corp.'s United Airlines and Accor Asia Pacific to promote tourism. Marketing mainly to the United States, which accounted for 9% of total tourists to Australia last year, 'Crocodile Dundee' actor Paul Hogan is appearing in television commercials inviting Americans to Australia. The Commission hopes to increase total visitor arrivals by 10% to a record five million people in 2001. Having had the 2000 Olympics in Sydney should bring in A$6.1 billion in tourism earnings between the years of 1997 and 2004, 4% higher than had the Olympics been held somewhere else.

Bargain suites, elite status
Article Abstract:
While the terrorist attacks in the U.S. have forced American airlines to cut prices, Asian airlines have kept prices the same and some have even added surcharges. One way airlines are trying to help though is by making frequent-flier programs more attractive. One area where travelers can find discounts, however, is with hotel accommodations.
