Uproar over return of bronze lion tied to 'scam ads' for Sydney zoo
Article Abstract:
Lowe Lintas (Australia), Oglivy and Mather and Grey Advertising (both of the United States) were all awarded prizes at the International Advertising Festival, but returned them when it was discovered that the 'scam ads' that won were created only for the contest and were never run as advertising. This year's contest requires a letter from the agency's client as proof that the ad actually ran.

No foreigners allowed?
Article Abstract:
Foreign advertising agencies feel that a memo drafted by Thailand's foreign minister Thaksin Shinawatra, which stressed an end to the importing of expensive goods and asked government agencies and state-owned companies to replace foreign consultants with Thai consultants, discriminates against them. A prime minister aide, however, said the memo only encourages companies to hire Thai consultants.

Advertising kit strikes race sensitivities
Article Abstract:
A packet developed by Saatchi and Saatchi Worldwide to call for entries for Hong Kong advertising awards administered by The Hong Kong Association of Accredited Advertising Agents has been denounced as racist, because it ridicules foreigners. All 15 of the largest ad agencies in Hong Kong are branches of US, Japanese or European multinational ad agencies. The advertising association says it will develop new announcement packets.
