Alitalia deal jeopardized by politics, dwindling cash
Article Abstract:
A potential deal between the Italian government and Air France KLM S.A. regarding the sale of Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A. (Alitalia) may be doomed due to the political polarization the deal has generated. While some Italian politicians approve of selling Alitalia to Air France KLM, others want the carrier to remain in national hands. Alitalia's steadily decreasing cash reserves, along with Italy's elections in April, add time pressures to the deal.
